Brother to Reginald and Basil, the 1911 census records that the family were living Mackworth and Francis was unemployed. In 1914 he married Emma Hutchings.
He enlisted on the 28th October 1915 and his occupation was given as a “Dining Car Attendant”. He is described as being 5ft 5ins tall. He initially joined the Durham Light Infantry but was with the 2nd Dragoon Guards on his discharge on the 7th March 1919.
He died in 1961 in Birmingham aged 69 years.
